A coil-bound photography book, in style of a mechanic’s manual, and featuring the full extent of Pit Pass series accompanied Arkan's first solo exhibtion.

Pit Pass was Arkan's first solo exhibition, a part of CONTACT Photo Festival in Toronto hosted at Project 107 Gallery.

The exhibition contained 22 archival pigment prints. 2 installation pieces accompanied the images.

The series are an exploration of the sport of demolition derby as practiced in many rural communities in North America, and around the world.

The dress-up and subsequent demolition of vehicles harks back to the theatre of pagan rituals and is performed in reverence to the historic reliance on all things automotive by rural communities hosting these events.

Field recordings from demolition derbies are played along with dramatic operettas playing up the boisterous, over-the-top atmosphere.

Sound of field recordings from demolition derbies mixed with dramatic opera will echo through the space to play up the boisterous, over-the-top atmosphere. I seek to draw similarities between today’s demolition derbies and cultural sporting events of old - both deeply rooted in community.
